Department of Biostatistics

The Biostatistics department is functioning since 2012 and currently located in 2nd floor ETC building. The main areas of effort of this department include collaborative research, consultation, and education. The department participates in research projects from all disciplines of the PIMS and offers statistical advice to researchers (both students and faculty). From study design to interpretation of results we help the researcher, in a timely manner, in achieving sound scientific results from their research project.

Our statisticians determine how many subjects are needed, the most appropriate methods for analysis, and the means to carry out the necessary procedures such as sampling, randomization etc..

Our services include but are not limited to:

 Translating research hypotheses into statistical terms
 Estimating sample size
 Data entry methods
 Statistical analysis
  Interpretation and presentation of statistical data
     and results

The Department maintains an active schedule of lectures on a variety of topics related to biostatistics, research design, and statistical analysis. Departmental staff teaches biostatistics to students of the Medicine, Science and Nursing at PIMS. Biostatisticians educate the researchers about biostatistics through the collaborative research and consulting activities. The consultation focus on ways to select and apply statistical techniques those are appropriate for different types of problems and providing formal structure underlying in these techniques.

The objectives of the department are to conduct collaborative research, providing statistical consultations, statistical training to health professionals, and serving on research committees that are responsible for evaluating research proposal.

Our areas of interest include but are not limited to:

Etiological studies
Survival studies
Clinical trials
Meta analysis
