Department Of General Surgery

The Department of General Surgery has been functional in the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences since the inception of the institution in 2002. It is recognized for training MBBS students and MS (General Surgery) Postgraduates. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. Jacob Jayakar. It consists of five surgical units. All surgical units consists of a set of bright, enthusiastic, experienced and competent Professors, Associate and Assistant Professors who cover the department in-house round the clock on all days of the year.

Surgical patients receive high quality care with advanced surgeries ranging from open to laparoscopic surgeries. There is a dedicated team of surgeons with expertise in all kind of surgeries including open, laparoscopic, oncologic, endocrine and trauma surgeries. We are supported by super specialty departments like Urology, Plastic surgery, Neuro surgery, Paediatric surgery and Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery with all facilities for super specialty surgeries and post operative care.
