1. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:

A candidate who fulfills the following shall be eligible for Ph.D (N) programme

       1. The candidates should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife or equivalent with any state Nursing Registration Council.
       2. The minimum education requirement shall be pass in M.Sc Nursing.
       3. The candidate should have undergone M.Sc Nursing/M.Phil (N) in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing council.
       4. Shall have 3 years of work experience after M.Sc Nursing.
       5. Publication in accredited journals.

2. DURATION OF THE COURSE AND COURSE OF STUDY:

    A candidate can register for Ph.D. course on Full Time or Part Time basis.

        • Full Time :

            – Three years from the date of provisional registration.

            – Maximum period of five years.

        • Part Time :

            – Five years from the date of provisional registration.

            – Maximum period of Six years.

3. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION:

    English shall be the medium of instruction for all the subjects of study and for examination of the Course.

5. INTERNAL ASSESSMENT:

Internal assessment will be done in each subject of study and the marks will be awarded to the candidates as detailed in the scheme of examinations. The marks awarded will be on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the assignments, seminar presentation, Half yearly report submission as assessed by the supervisor / HOD.

6. EXAMINATIONS:

a)  A Ph.D Candidate shall, after the completion of the first year take examination consisting of at least two written papers of
     3 hours of duration each and a maximum marks of 100 of each paper, which will be conducted by Supervisor / HOD.

b)  Generally, the part -I shall be on Research Methodology and Paper – II shall be on the Specific area of Research and Allied fields.

c)  Valuation in respect of Paper-I will be done by one of the examiners from the panel approved by the University for a period
     of Three years. The evaluation of paper -II will be left to the supervisor / HOD. The passing minimum for each of the papers
     shall be 50% marks.

d)  A candidate fails in the written examination may be permitted to reappear for the examination but not for more than three including
     first attempt. A candidate who fails in third attempt shall not be permitted to continue and the provisional registration shall be
     cancelled.

                                                                        ADMISSION AND SELECTION PROCESS

ISSUE AND SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION :

Application forms for the programmes can be obtained on request from The Registrar/Asst.Registrar / Dean, College of Nursing, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Puducherry. It can be accessed either in person or by post with the prescribed fee (as mentioned in the table below) as crossed demand draft drawn in favour of “College of Nursing, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences”. No other mode of payment will be accepted. The application form for the programme desired must be specified.

    at the Central Bank of India, P.I.M.S. Branch.
2. Copies of Nursing certificates – Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course (applicable to male candidates)/
    BSc Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing / M.Sc.Nursing.
3. Registration certificates from the State Nursing Council for Nursing & Midwifery / alternate course (applicable to male candidates).
    Registration certificate for additional qualification (for those who completed Post Basic B.Sc Nursing/ M.Sc.Nursing)
4. Experience certificates after Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery/ B.Sc Nursing/ Post Basic B.Sc Nursing/ M.Sc. Nursing till date.
5. Mark lists of Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery / BSc Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing / M.Sc. Nursing
6. Transcript of Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery / B.Sc Nursing / P.B B.Sc (N) / M.Sc.(N)
7. Certificate indicating the Date of Birth (if not stated in the 10th /12th mark sheet)
8. General education qualification certificates (10th & 12th)
9. Current medical fitness certificate
10. Merit certificates (if the candidate is a best outgoing student, a certificate from the institution indicating the same should
      be enclosed)
11. Community certificate from the Government Authority
12. Baptism certificate / Confirmation certificate – if Christian
13. No objection certificate from the latest employer
14.Two self addressed long envelopes (9” x 4”) with Rs.5/- stamp affixed
15.Migration Certificate (for other state candidates)


HALL TICKETS

The Hall Ticket will be generated one week prior to the entrance test. Candidates may print it out from the website www.pondiuni.edu.in. Please keep your application and registration numbers handy. If any problem is encountered, kindly contact the office of the Registrar by post, email, telephone or fax.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

All eligible candidates are required to undertake a written examination (multiple choice questions) on the prescribed date. The candidates are expected to report 1/2 an hour before the examination at the centre with the hall ticket. The examination will be conducted in English. The results of the selected candidates will be published in the website and intimated individually by post.

 MEDICAL CHECK UP & INTERVIEW

A medical checkup will be held on the day or day after interview.
Candidates attending the interview are expected to produce all the relevant certificates in original as mentioned in the prospectus. Without the original certificates candidates are not permitted to attend the medical checkup and interview.

NOTE: Admission to any particular programme is based on the performance in the entrance examination, medical fitness, interview and weightage is given for having served in the rural and needy areas and for their previous academic performance. Admission is subject to approval from the University and other such bodies as applicable.


All selected candidates who wish to accept the seat offered must give their acceptance in writing within the prescribed dates as mentioned in the prospectus. On failing to do so, the seat will be offered to the next candidate in the wait list as per the admission policy.

REGISTRATION

All selected candidates are expected to produce all the documents in original for registration and join the programme on the stipulated dates. Failing to do so the candidate will have to forfeit the seat.
