In a short span of its existence it has become one of the leading center for mental health care services in the Union Territory of Puducherry. It has faculty from diverse backgrounds, but working together with the single goal and objective of reaching the unreached.

A wide range of laboratory tests

A wide range of laboratory tests are also available. Addiction to substances such as alcohol, tobacco, ganja etc are managed with appropriate behavioral and other psychotherapeutic approaches to prevent relapse. This follows an initial phase of medication therapy for relieving the withdrawal effects of the particular substance. Recovering patients are effectively supported by a self help group which meets on Saturday mornings.

Child guidance clinic

Child guidance clinic is conducted on all days which addresses the issues of children and adolescents with various kinds of psychiatric illnesses, behaviour problems, learning difficulties, retarded mental development and academic decline. The clinic receives support and input from other clinical disciplines including paediatrics and Neurology.'

Community Psychiatry

The department provides regular psychiatric services to old age homes, Juvenile Homes and the inmates of the Central prison at Pondicherry.

Psychiatric intervention is available round the clock for managing psychiatric emergencies including patients who are suicidal and acutely disturbed. Biofeedback and other relaxation techniques are employed in addressing stress related disorders. Almost all mental and behavioural problems can be solved with modern advancements in the field of psychiatry.

In addition to the state of the art clinical services, the department is actively striving for excellence in the areas of academic and research by conducting workshops, conferences and taking up clinically relevant research projects.
