The Child Guidance and Rehabilitation Centre (CGRC) under the Department of Pediatrics, PIMS, has started training teenagers in vocational skills to help them to get a head start on employment when they enter into adulthood. As a part of this initiative, an exhibition and sales of the different items made by children with special needs was conducted on 3/02/2025 at the PIMS OPD. The articles crafted by the children included, earrings, bangles, necklaces, bracelets, keychains and cups made out of coconut shells, pen-stands, painted earthen pots and diyas, tablemats, paper bags, paintings, etc. The program was flagged off by the Director Principal Dr. Renu Gboy Varghese. The occasion was also graced by the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Peter Manoharan, General Manager of Finance, Mr. George Thomas and the Chaplain Rev. Fr. Joby George. The chief guests were the children who handmade the articles. There was an overwhelming response from the staff and patient attenders and customised orders were also taken for jewellery and other items. All the proceedings from the sales will go towards buying raw materials to continue the vocational training of children with special needs. The Department of Pediatrics has also started an Adolescent friendly health clinic which will screen adolescents for various physical and mental health problems.
