Department of Emergency Medicine

OVERVIEW - Emergency departments are equipped to provide rapid, comprehensive care to patients with a wide variety of urgent medical needs.The emergency department at Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide comprehensive emergency care.

Also designated as level 1 trauma center in Pondicherry. It operates 24/7, ensuring that patients receive timely and efficient treatment at any time of the day or night. The emergency department has efficient personnel such as Emergency physicians, CMOs, and nurses on duty round the clock, and consultants of various departments are available round the clock. The emergency department's nursing staff periodically receives ACLS and BLS training

  • Advanced Diagnostic Tools: The department is equipped with indirect laryngoscopes, video laryngoscopes, and fiberoptic bronchoscopes to assist in airway management and diagnostic procedures.
  • Emergency ICU: The attached emergency ICU is equipped with dialysis machines and ventilators to provide critical care for patients with severe conditions.
  • Comprehensive Trauma Care: The department is capable of handling trauma cases, including accidents, falls, and other injuries, with a dedicated team of specialists.
  • Multidisciplinary Approach: The emergency department collaborates with various specialties, including cardiology, neurology, nephrology, and more, to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex medical conditions.
  • Rapid Diagnostic Services: The department has point-of-care devices and has access to laboratories, radiology, and imaging services to quickly diagnose and treat patients.
  • Pharmacy Services: An in-house pharmacy ensures that medications and treatments are readily available for emergency cases.
  • Patient Registration: A dedicated case-sheet registration section within the emergency department streamlines the process of admitting and treating patients efficiently
  • Ambulance Service Facility: Fully equipped BLS and ACLS ambulance services

Have a strong background in surgical critical care, trauma management, and advanced life support.As a dedicated educator, actively mentoring medical students, residents, and postgraduates, emphasizing evidence-based practices and the latest advancements in surgical care.

Research interests include innovations in trauma care, surgical advance care , sepsis management, and improving outcomes in critically ill surgical patients.

Have taken post of DMS Emergency care & ICU for past one year and 7 years of experience in general surgery including laparoscopic surgery and trauma related surgical management.
