The department of Neurosurgery at PIMS Hospital, Kalapet - is probably the best centre in the region, in the private sector, for tackling surgical disorders of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves, both elective and trauma related. It has the requisite experienced man power to tackle all kinds of neurosurgical problems, along with the related basic specialties and Medical Neurology. The Neurosurgery OPD functions on all working days (Monday to Friday – 10 am to 4 pm) and the emergency services are available round the clock.

The conditions which can be dealt with here are:

  • Trauma: Head Injuries, Spinal Injuries , Peripheral Nerve Injuries
  • Pediatric Neurosurgery
  • Congenital lesions of the brain & spine – Hydrocephalus / Spinal & Cranial fusion defects;
  • Infections of the brain – Brain abscess & Post infective hydrocephalus;
  • Tumors of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves;
  • Neuro Vascular lesions – AVMs & Aneurysms / SAH
  • Stroke surgery – Evacuation of ICH / Decompression for Massive infarcts
  • Spine Surgeries : Cervical & Lumbar degenerative lesions– Disc prolapse and canal stenosis;
  • Cranio Vertebral Anomalies;
  • Surgery for Trigeminal Neuralgia – Micro Vascular Decompression;
  • Peripheral Nerves – Schwannomas / Carpel Tunnel Syndrome;
  • Minimally Invasive Brain and Spine Surgeries
  • Endoscopic Brain & Spine Surgeries
  • Neuro rehabilitation :

    “We are currently the only institution willing to take care of post head injury patients for nursing care, rehabilitation, and most importantly, de cannulation of tracheostomy. Patients stay with us for a period ranging from 30 days to 45 days, and a fair number of them go back home without tracheostomies".

We have conducted an awareness program on the usefulness of helmets in the prevention of head injuries and are planning ones on Effects of drunken Driving and Epilepsy Do’s & Don’ts.
